Anyone that used the previous version of the VolksFolks Forum probably remembers our chat room feature. Our chat room is still open and available, except there is no web-based client for access, but I will tell you how to get on.

Step 1 Download and install an IRC client. This is the software used to connect and join the chat room. The most popular version for Windows is mIRC so download that and run the installation program. For more detailed instructions on how to download and install, refer to mIRC's instructions. Once that is done launch the application.

Step 2 Connect to the server and join the channel. Upon launching mIRC, you will see a dialog box including a photo of the handsome author. Close this box. The next  box asks you to fill out some information. Go ahead and put your name, email address, and a nickname. This nickname is what will be displayed whilst you are on the channel. The alternate is there just in case someone else has that nickname already. Now click OK. There will be a blank status window with a command line at the bottom. Type /server diigitaldreams.com to sign on. A lot of stuff will scroll on the screen and the last line will say End of /MOTD Command. Now type /join #VolksFolks to join the chat. This opens the channel window, and on the right you will see the users signed on right now. Chanserv will be there but it's just a bot to hold the channel for us. I'll be on if I'm around too. This windows looks and operates similar to the old web chat on our previous board.

That about wraps it up, we hope to see you there. If anyone needs additional assistance then contact me or reply in this thread.

Russ

Just thought I would bring this back up because I didn't know how to sign on to the chatroom... but then I found this.  I remembered it was here, and didn't have to make another post regarding the same subject in a different forum.  Now that's streamlining.  :tounge:

I thought someone else might need to have their memories refreshed about how to "chat" before the need to "chat" arose.

There is a web interface now by the way. Either use the chat link next to new posts or use the following.

Speaking of the chat link, you're missing an "" tag. This has been bugging me for a long time. I posted about it several months ago, but it was ignored. If you look at the top the New Posts link extends all the way to the Chat link, it needs to be preceeded by the closing A tag.

It wasn't ignored, When i find the one line again in the one of the 250+ pearl scripts (that are minimum of 100 lines of code for half of them.) I will add it. Its very low at the priority list at the moment. It's just a cosmetic thing and to most it's not that big of a deal.
