Anyone that used the previous version of the VolksFolks Forum probably remembers our chat room feature. Our chat room is still open and available, except there is no web-based client for access, but I will tell you how to get on.
Step 1 Download and install an IRC client. This is the software used to connect and join the chat room. The most popular version for Windows is
mIRC so
download that and run the installation program.
For more detailed instructions on how to download and install, refer to mIRC's instructions. Once that is done launch the application.
Step 2 Connect to the server and join the channel. Upon launching mIRC, you will see a dialog box including a photo of the handsome author. Close this box. The next box asks you to fill out some information. Go ahead and put your name, email address, and a nickname. This nickname is what will be displayed whilst you are on the channel. The alternate is there just in case someone else has that nickname already. Now click
OK. There will be a blank status window with a command line at the bottom. Type
/server diigitaldreams.com to sign on. A lot of stuff will scroll on the screen and the last line will say
End of /MOTD Command. Now type
/join #VolksFolks to join the chat. This opens the channel window, and on the right you will see the users signed on right now.
Chanserv will be there but it's just a bot to hold the channel for us. I'll be on if I'm around too. This windows looks and operates similar to the old web chat on our previous board.
That about wraps it up, we hope to see you there. If anyone needs additional assistance then
contact me or reply in this thread.
