Check your local Wally World for Johnny Lightning's newest release, a box set of 4 different 1966 Beetles. They retail at Wally World for $9.99. There were at one time at least 20 boxes of them at the LaFayette store (I think there were probably 24 boxes), so they shouldn't be in short supply. I started to put all of them in lay-away, but since there were 17 sets (at $9.99 each) left when I got there, I settled on a dozen boxes. So, as of tonight, there are 5 boxes of them left at the LaFayette store.
But wait; there's a catch! This series has 6 cars in it. They are packaged in three different boxes of 4. They all have identical numbers on the bar code label and the outside of the boxes are identical, but they are packaged in three different combinations with each bug showing up in two different boxes. If you get two different boxes, you'll get all the cars, but you'll have two each of two of them and only one each of the other four . . . so you'll want to get all three boxes and have two each of each car . . . and you'll want to buy two each of the three different boxes so you'll have some to open and take out of the box . . . Now you've got twelve cars in boxes and 12 cars loose when there are only 6 cars in the set!
How's that for creative marketing?
