You can get a red coat tank sealer at oreillys for about $27 bucks for a quart. It does alright. It stays flexible whereas many others are more paint like. I used Eastwoods gas tank sealer previously on a vehicle I never drove(no clue how that's working out...) the red coat we used on Matthews bus which we haven't got running yet...

Go to lowes/home depot and buy muratic acid for pools and use that to clean it first. I don't know how the outlet nipples are on the bottom of a FI tank but I just broke the outlet nipple off Matthews bus when I was wrestling the tank in. It was easier to replace on the carbed buses but I don't know much about the FI buses.

Get the filler neck and see about the whole fuel line kits from maybe bus depot or bus boys or German auto. I can't remember which one sells the whole kit but its all pre cut.

I think you can do this with the engine in, but its a big pain. It is definitely easier to get the tank out with the engine and trans removed. I'd love to help but I just don't think I have the time to so this right now. I don't mind advising if I can.

This should give you an idea on price, German Supply sells a fuel line replacement kit for about $100: http://germansupply.com/home/customer/product.php?productid=16400

I didn't go the kit route. Most everything I got came from Bus Depot.

7mm fuel hose, I got several meters just to be safe.
Fuel filter
Hose clamps, I got 25.
50mm fuel line to go from the fuel filter to the pump.

I got a few other odds and ends too, mostly vacuum lines. Are you pulling the engine? I assume so since you're redoing the tank too. You can pull the tank with the engine in place but most people will tell you it's more of a pain to go that route.

A couple of other things I noticed after looking at your engine this past weekend. You need to replace the foam seal, it's deteriorating pretty badly. You can get a new one for 35 bucks: http://www.busdepot.com/411813225

You're also missing the heater blower hose on the right hand side: http://www.busdepot.com/211261236 Not only will this help with your heat up front, it'll prevent hot air from the heat exchanger going into the intake. Sealing off the engine compartment from hot air is critical to these engines, they run hot as it is and you can easily run too hot and damage the heads.

If you go the whole pull the engine and trans route, you could end up with a long list of fun stuff to replace "while you are at it"

I would look at CB boots, the foam seal, clutch (at least check the condition), main seal, needle bearing in the crank, shifter bushings (now is the time to address any shifting issues).

I'm sure there are a ton more, but this wrenching party could turn into quite an event with a long list.

Yep, that is the boot. Looks like you've got a laundry list of stuff to work on. Lots of work but it'll pay off by keeping your bus running in top condition for a long time. I know it's your daily driver but if you had another vehicle lined up to drive, you could tackle everything on the bus without the pressure of trying to get it drivable by the next day.

As for a date, I would just pick one and announce it. If people can show up, they will. We're getting into a very busy time of year for people plus it's going to start getting cold outside.

my real job is very very busy all summer.  but now I'm looking for something to hold me through the winter.  that being said... it can be torn down for a few days and i'll be just fine.   we have her car too, if needed.

i guess i just need to pick a date / weekend or something soon.  before it gets too cold.

i'll get back to ya soon
