which oil temp sensor?

« on: April 03, 2008, 09:04:08 PM »
tring to decide which oil temp sensor i should invest in. i already have a Head temp gauge installed, but id like to know the oil temp too. so which is the best. i've seen the drain plug style, the one that replaces oil switch, and sometimes the dip stick style.  dont really wanna pull out my switch so id have to put in a "T" so i could run both there. Im running a Type1 motor(out of a 73) in a 73 bus and overheating is expensive!

Keep the back of the engine sealed to the engine bay and the engine tuned up and heat shouldn't be a problem.  I've been running a type 1 in my 73 for several years and heat hasn't been a problem . . . except when I had a BAD vacuum leak in the intake and tried to climb Monteagle twice. It got kind'a warm that day!

I've never used one, but the dipstick sensor would be the one I used IF I used one.  Simple, easy to install, not to expensive, does a good job of warning you when you start to overheat . . . sounds like my kind of part.

how did you seal up the back of the engine bay. got any pictures you can share? about all i got is sheet metal screwed down basically over the heads to the rear of the bus. no screw in the heads of course!  just into the original tin for the type1
