« on: September 28, 2008, 10:25:50 PM »
Yo,
Where in the heck do I put this jack and tool kit for my 1972 beetle?
I am still in search of a 1972 owner's manual.....
Any one have a scan?
Any one have a photo of how the tool kit and the washer all lays out in this thing....?

The Samba has scans of most every VW manual. Here's one for your '72: http://www.thesamba.com/vw/archives/manuals/72bug.php

Page 59 depicts the jack being stored underneath the rear bench seat, near the battery, held down with a clamp.

I don't know what VW was thinking when they desided to put the jack under the rear seat.  Back in the days when people really traveled in these bugs, they would fold the seat down and put all their luggage back there.   Thats when you have flat tire.  You had to unload the car to get to the jack. What a pain in the Butt.
I liked it when the jack/tool kit was mounted beside the spare tire up front on the pass. side on a old model Bug. You could have the front trunk loaded down and still get to the jack/spare tire.
