Wheels/Tires '79 Type 2

« on: February 23, 2010, 12:41:57 PM »
I am looking to put new tires on Sweet Pea and think it might be a good time to work on the wheels.  Would anyone recommend blasting and powder-coating?  Bob Hoover seems to think that old wheels are probably incurably bent up and unbalanced.  Would it be better to get new wheels?  If so, can anyone recommend a supplier?  Sweet Pea needs new tires anyway, but I also want to improve the ride :)

Should I wait 'till Bug-a-paluza to find wheels, tires, etc...  I've never been so I don't really know what to expect.

I recommend powder coating, that's what I did to mine and they look great. In fact I have a spare set of wheels that are spray painted right now, but they'd be in good shape for blasting/powder coating.

And when you get tires, don't forget to make sure they are sidewall reinforced with at least a 'C' load rating, preferably a 'D'. Continental Vanco 2, Yokohama Y56, Hankook RA08, etc.

I searched the website earlier today under "wheels" "tires" & etc... And didn't find that post.  Thanks for the link.  I'll buy 'em!
