« on: July 25, 2010, 04:05:31 PM »
Hello,

Where would I go to look up my vin#?

I'd like to find out where she was born.

Thanks in advance

Check out the Technical section on the Samba....

A link....

http://www.thesamba.com/vw/archives/info/chassisdating.php

Then fish around in there for a bit, get the M-code plate info, that often gives you port information for the importer.  There's also info on their about obtaining your "Birth Certificate" for your ride as well.

She was born in Germany ;)

You will uncover a lot of info from the M-plate. On a '69, it's on the metal wall behind the driver's seat. Snap a photo of it or write the codes down in the order that they appear and reference the numbers here: http://www.type2.com/m-codes/

Or post it for me, I have a book with them and can probably decode most of them for you. It'll tell you exactly how the bus was configured from the factory.

How about that. It was picked up by the first owner at the factory in Wolfsburg.

I think the buses were being made in Hanover by then, but feel free to fact-check that. ;)
