I finally found the answer, and just in case you were wondering too . . . Even though the it says it's for a 009 on the Btlmex.com web site, NO, THIS VACUUM UNIT WON'T WORK ON A 009!
Vacuum advance distributors advance the spark timing by moving the points in relation to the distributor cam. Centrifical advance distributors advance the spark by changing the postion of the distributor cam in relation to points. A dual advance distributor does both.
A 009 distributor is a Centrifical Advance distributor and has a fixed points plate . . . it's screwed down to the body of the distributor and isn't going to be moved by any amount of vacuum.
Apparently what they are calling a 009 distributor isn't the 009 that we all know and either love or hate. It must be a dual advance distributor that is sold void of the vacuum unit. Without the vacuum it operates like a 009, advancing the ignition timing further the faster it rotates up until the point it reaches its maximum advance. If the vacuum unit is added, it will also advance the spark depending on the load on the engine
