I found a Type 3 Squareback that is automatic. Currently it does not run (it's in Florida). Owner says he doesn't know why or what is wrong with it. I have no experience with automatic VW's. Can it be converted to manual? If so how difficult? If it stays automatic how hard to find parts? Anyone comments? :O

The bus automatics are awesome, enough that I switched out a manual to an auto, but I don't have experience with type 3s.  Travis???

No experience with automatic transmissions...unless you count the time I put the wrong transmission fluid into my 1980 Pontiac Phoenix and totally ruined it!

Haven't heard a lot about the automatic for the Type 3.
You might want to try the Type 3 gurus at Type3.org
