turns over slow after being drove

May try to grease the bushing first to see what happens

If it's draggin' 'cause of the bushing, it's because the bushing is worn and letting the armature drag inside the starter.  Lubrication won't help.

Well, not sure if it was dragging, just hard to start after it was drove, shutoff, then tried to re-start right away. Once it started to cool, turned over  fine.

But, thanks to your tip, was able to extract the old bushing(YAHOO!!) and insert the new one(was giving myself high fives on that), will install the new starter in the morning..
Hopefully see if this does the trick. if not maybe look at timing..

Got the new starter in and that seemed to have don the trick. Not everytime, but now the starter will click a couple times in a row then it'll turn over.

Also, is it normal for the neck below the carb to sweat? noticed after driving this morning, little water beads on the "throat".
wonder about that due to the only probem is when I'm drving around 35 or 40 mph, it doesn't quite jerk, but feels like you need to shift up to 3rd to smooth out.

Thanks for the help..

I wouldn't think the starter should " click" at all.  Check all other connections.
The "sweat" on the intake is not unsual around this part of the country, but do you have the pre-heat hose up to the air cleaner ?
This is a lot like a piston engine on a aircraft as they have a carb heat that you turn on when you throttle back during landings to keep your carb and manifold from iceing up and stalling out the engine.

Betcha if it does have the manifold heat tube that its plugged with carbon deposits. Sometimes you can ram a coathanger up there and knock them loose.

The carb has a little chrome air cleaner, The only hose on the cleaner, isone that  runs down where the oil fill is.. The old breather had a small hose to the oil fill and bigger hose which exited out at the engine tin down by the crank pulley.
