transaxle guru's needed!

« on: December 11, 2008, 04:15:15 PM »
Well I got my trans out thinking I would find something obvious but I really don't see anything wrong with it.  I pulled it apart, it has the large 10 tooth 1st gear, steel shift forks, super diff. with threaded end caps.  Everything looks o.k. except the fork or carrier for the reverse gear is brass and has some wear on 1 side.  I guess I just dont really know what to look for.  I was having trouble shifting from second to third and back again..only other real issue was sometimes when in reverse the car would not freely roll when the clutch was pushed in, it was binding on something, but as soon as I put it in neutral all was freed up.  I looked at the shifter and the bushing in the tunnel they look fine as well as the coupling in the rear.  Anyone have any ideas?  I don't really want to pull the gearsets apart if there is no real reason..too much to go wrong putting them back together as I have no experience with these trannys.
Thanks.
Rick.
