tranny rebuild

Bugtech, a friend of mine is in the beginning stages of building himself a rail buggy for the street.  we just parted out this 69 I had, and he is trying to find the right person to "go through" this trans .  is that a job for BugTech??   can you recomend someone who we could trust?

Hi Boone, Does the tranny have a problem that you know of ?  Its really hard to pin point a problem without driving it. You can sometimes stare at  some parts and pronounce them good only to have them jump up and bite you. If you cannot see anything on the outside,change the fluid and see what come out. Chunks and brassy looking stuff etc. You will see some stuff on the magnetic drain plug, but if it looks like fine powder, thats OK.
   Yes , I can repair trannys, but I am sure a long way from you. Surely there is someone closer as much as I would like to have the job.
    I would go ahead and install the tranny and drive it around and see what happens. Then go from there. Those 69 trannys were pretty tough and you may luck out.

thanks David, I'll tell him that. we just dont really know anyone close that we would trust to know much about a VW tranny.  I agree with trying it first, thats what I'm gonna do with my car.  I guess he just wanted to lessen the chances of having to tear it back down.
