Pretty sure its not a good idea. Remove the axles on the wheel end and wire them up out of the way. Better yet, remove them on both ends to avoid the stub axle making contact with the loose end when hitting a bump.

You will need a special triple square bit (NOT AN ALLEN HEAD) and a nice little pick to clean the heads out BEFORE tapping the triple square bit into the head with a hammer. You don't want to strip those. Keep them clean- the grease they use is messy.

As long as you have it in neutral, it shouldn't be a problem.  This isn't an "automatic" transmission.  The autostick is a manual gear box, driven by a torque converter that is driven through an automatic clutch.  If you have the gearbox in neutral, the input side of the trasmission doesn't turn.  It's no different than putting a manual transmission Beetle in neutral and towing it.

I've towed autosticks with a tow bar several times without a problem.  Of course, they were all fairly short trips (25 miles or less).  If I'm wrong on this, don't worry, Ret.Bugtech will be along shortly to whallop me upside the head with a rod from a Dasher . . .

Been there, Done that.
yes you can tow it.
It is just a 3 spd trans with an automatic (sorta) clutch.
It will oil the trans when being towed.
(Make sure there is oil in it, LOL.)

No problem to tow Auto-stick . DO NOT tow a Rabbit automatic with the front wheels on the ground

Trailering it isn't a bad idea if it's missing a heater channel.  It would probably be ok for a short trip on good smooth roads, but why chance it?  If you get the body tweeked or twisted just a little, putting a new channel in it wouldn't be fun . . . not that it's a fun task if everything in still lined up properly . . .  8)

it is a PITA to work on heater channels. I tried on my old baja bug, but ended up finding another body and swapping them over. I actually still have one of the heater channels I tacked into place and ended up keeping after I changed plans. Let me know if you need a left side (I think!)
