I do love me some low!! ;D  You didn't say if yours is a super or not, I would imagine since your talking spindles it's a standard beetle. How low are you wanting to go? I can tell you that this can be addictive like boost, speed, and money! :D Plan plan plan, come up with where you want to be with the ride height and then figure out the details.  You can pick any ride height for the rear with 165/15's out back, anywhere from stock 41 year sag to pretty much dumped in the weeds. The front is what requires the planning, going low on a ball joint beam could mean clearanced ball joints, spindles and a bit of narrowing. Just dropped spindles will get 2 1/2 in. lower, and about a 1/2 in. wider.  It really is a matter of opinion, a good starting point would be a 4 inch narrowed and adjustable beam, dropped spindles and some 145/80/15's or equivalent diameter new school tire, drop it a few inches out back and see how you like it. You can get a ball joint car fairly low and still have good ride quality, but to get it crazy low and ride well will take a lot of work and planning. The more planning at this point will save you from buying the same items over and over again, trying them out and taking them off to get to a different result.  German look, Cal look, level ride height or raked, stock just a little lower all around? ??? Fill us in and we can help steer you in the right direction, there are some peep's  on this forum that have some experience with suspension mods! 8)

Been there, done that on a 1971 SB.
Wheel choice is a problem with SB's.
I was running 145 65 15's.
Fit well, looked good with the turtle backs I had on there.
Running the same tires on my '63 with 3" narrowed, adjustable beam and 2" dropped spindles.
That was my choice.

Hey now! Someone changed the poll on me. I believe I had selected "Help me" and now its "Lower." I'm not into lowering it, but since you have the stock sized tires and want to look for smaller tires, the 75s won't be much different than the 80s (maybe 1/2" in wheel height and a little more than 1/4" in clearance at the top of the tire). Since you want to lower it, I'd look at 135s, 145s, 155s and see what you can find. Seems like all of the lowfolks go for the smaller ones.

Lower is the obvious choice because the other two options don't offer much difference.

It might.  The car is going down hill all the time.  Just think,It gets better fuel mileage and when you go up-hill the car is level thus you don't use as much fuel plus and it could it 10mph faster. ??? ??? ???  ;D ;D ;D  Don't tell Smelly-Cat

Wouldn't your gas mileage increase? Your tires are spinning faster (than stock), which would indicate you traveled farther (when you actually didn't) and you'll be using the same amount of gas, if not less due to traveling slower. Brilliant! SC will be putting smaller tires on his stinkywagon soon!

I could work for the Bureau of Labor putting together jobs reports with this kind of math!
