I think i have done them Travis, but it's tricky.  If memory serves, i took the 2 large 27mm head bolts (they might be 24mm on the Things) loose on the carrier, undid the clutch, accel, and heater cables, wiggled the whole assembly back just far enough to squeak the front mount in, then pushed it back forward, bolted it back up.  I know it works with the older mounts, but the later are thicker, don't know that i have done any of the later style?   ???

It's kinda a pain (pulling the engine on a thing can be a pain too).... don't know if it's work the effort to try to short the repair.

If it's like the front mount on a late model Beetle, I'm pretty sure you can do it. I seem to remember replacing one without taking anything else loose.  It's been several years, so I'm not 100% sure exactly how I did it . . . but I don't remember it being too hard.  But then again, it's been a few years . . .

I think the mounts are the thicker types like a '69 -'70 bug. Do what Rick said and stand by with a long pry bar just in case.  They are not fun.
