Thanks to brian

« on: December 08, 2008, 03:42:30 PM »
I want to thank Brian for taking time out of his day today and comming to my house to help me with the carb / timing problem. He did a great job and got the car back to a point where i can drive it if i need to or to some one who can fine tune one remaining problem. I also want to thank The Godfather and Bugnut for their help when we had a question on something and we called them. Hey Godfather, i will be giving you a call on the idle fine tuning problem of it going good at about 1000 and then it just jumps to 2000 and then will go back. Everyone should know that these guys need a gold star by their names. Thanks again Brian for the help........Rob

Rob,I thought about it today and checked my handy dandy list as well.
The manifold you have was on the motor you had. I think after talking to David it could be an industrial intake.
There were a few items tha need to be replaced when the engine went in but cash was low. You need a new crank pulley and distributer. The carb you had was rebuilt but the trash in your lines later may have undid that deed.
1) get a good pulley no empi junk
2) Get a new dizzy that one has play in it ,the other one you had was junk. But that one needs to be rebushed or replaced.
3) what carb do you have now? Dont mix a 34 pict with a 009 dizzy ever.Keep that in mind when you replace the dizzy.
For now if it's running stop messsing with it until you have everything you need.

No problem
I wish we could have fixed it all.
I second the 009 Distributor.

He has a 30 pict 3 on right now

Thanks for the info Scott. What kind of pully would you say to get. I can not spend a bunch of money on it but i do want a good one. Also what kind of 009 distributer do you think i should get to go with the 30 pict - 3 carb. i do believe you that the manifold i have was on there when you did my engine. I did not think you put it on it. I will eventually chainge it out so i may come asking what kind you think i should get. But yes i will not be messing with it now that it is running again.........

Rob,  I would still be tempted to replace that worn out dist. with a vac. advance type. GOOD ones are getting a little hard to find though.  There is no reason to try to fine tune anything  until you get all the good parts on the same page. As far as the intake goes , I wouldn't sweat that to much until you start having a fuel pump problem which may occur in 3 months or 5 years from now. You will not gain anything if you change out the manifold.
All this RPM jumping MAY ( and I said may) could be caused by the worn out dist.

ok i will look for a good vacume advance type distributor for it and will leave the manifold alone for now. Should i just check places like Mid America and AirHeads for it or just go down to mainly and see if they have one or what. Should i go straight german part or is there good after market distributors that will work. I know not to get Empi parts..... :D

ok i am totaly confused now. I looked at samba to see what is out there and the cost for a 009 vacume advance distributor.  After looking i found there are too many types of distributors and the discriptions did it for me. I guess i will wait till i get a picture from some one that says this is what you need.........

Thanks for the link and number for the distributor. Now all i have to do is get the money some how for it. But it might have to wait till after the move to alabama......Oh i went out today and put a few gallons of gas ( good gas ) and started the bug today. after about 5 minutes it smoothed out a lot and idled good to drive. There is still a jump now and then on the idle but way better than before all this.....

Honestly, I have never been there so I'm not sure.  He advertises a full page in the Accelerator.  I think most of his business is other imports.  Some of the other people here may know.  I've dealt with him over the phone and purchased some parts for my restoration.  One of my co-worker's girlfriend used to work for him so she goes by and picks up the parts I've ordered and then my co-worker brings em to me (he lives in Cleveland).  Great guy to deal with though.  His number is 476-1149.  He's open Monday-Thursday 10-5 and Friday-Saturday 10-12.

Joe is a cool guy. Last few times I called him for parts I picked them up at his house. I'm not sure exactly what hours his shop is open anymore, for some reason I always end up needing stuff on the weekends.
