Still no headlights

Okay, thinking caps people...put in a new headlight switch and I still have no headlights unless I bridge two of the terminals. I think it's #30 and #56 on this diagram but I'm not sure without looking at it. I was troubleshooting last night but had to go into work for an emergency.

On #30, there are two terminals but only one wire...is that correct? Does it matter which terminal (front or back) the wire plugs into? Mine was plugged into the front most one but this diagram shows it going into the rear one.

Sorry, my modem has been down for several days.  I will look at one of mine (relay and fusebox connections) and report back later.

Russ, Do you not have a wiring diagram for that thing ?   If not you can download one off of Samba.  For the sake of me I can't remember whats whats on the wiring connections.  Do you hear any noise from the relay when you try to change beams. You gotta test light ?  You may have a problem up in the column.

Oh, that's the switch diagram.  I almost barked up the wrong tree.  Now I know what to look at.

I do have a wiring diagram which I printed off The Samba, since my Bentley manual I ordered will probably never get here. The headlight switch seems to be wired correctly.

I broke my new headlight switch on accident, but it wouldn't have worked anyways. The front bezel that screws it into the dash didn't fit either the threads nor the hole in the middle was big enough for the shaft. I managed to pull the shaft right out, but it was just a $20 switch so I'm not too worried. CIP credited me for the bum headlight relay they sent, so I may order another. Or if anyone has an original switch I could buy that would work too.

I wired up my original headlight switch again, which doesn't work unless I bridge those two terminals (#30 and #56 in the diagram above). My high/low beams work when I use the original headlight relay.

Now onto the twang...when everything was working perfectly, anytime you would turn the key on or off you could hear a mooing sound from under the dash, one of the metal relays mounted under there...starter relay maybe. It did this since the first day I got the bus. Now it doesn't do that anymore, but if I connect my new headlight switch and touch a wire to those two terminals, my headlights come on and you can hear that relay clicking/twanging.

I am not sure what to check anymore. Functionally I have lights, thanks to a toggle switch and wire Fred rigged up, but I would like to get it restored back to working order. I would owe somebody bigtime if they could help me get it straightened out.

Can anyone identify this part? Looks like a relay of some kind...it's the thing that "moos". It's under the dash, next to the fuse block. There's a terminal on the end with no wire on it, and it's hot (12V) so I'm wondering if this has something to do with my headlights not working. I haven't found any loose wires that look like goes on it either.

It doesn't look like anything from  Mayfields.   Does it have a part # on the case ?   Kind of looks like a head light relay on a Bug. Its been way to long

I am pretty sure it's not a VW part. Perhaps left over from the A/C setup? Maybe I should try and isolate it out of the system and follow the diagram to get everything set up the way it should be.
