Starting... or not...

« on: May 13, 2011, 04:28:59 PM »
Recently my bus started not starting.  Just a click.  I hear the fuel pump and I can get it to start after trying a few times -pushing in the clutch and moving in and out of gear.  the battery is new.  I can't help but thinking that it is related to the clutch pedal?  Is there are switch that is meant to keep you from starting in gear?  the contacts are clean on the battery cables and i have a new ground cable.  Or is this just what starts happening when the starter is going out?  Any insight?

Clutch has nothing to do with starting. Starter maybe starting to give you some flack or the Ing. switch, poor connections etc.

Thanks.  I just had a split cv boot on the passenger side.  When I replaced it I noticed that it had sprayed everything (including the starter) with grease.  This boot blew out and the starting problem happened about the same time. It might be worth it to get under there and clean up all of those connections.  They are totally covered from the blown boot.  Hopefully that helps.
