I know this isn't exactly a VW question, but it does involve using parts from a VW . . . so . . .
:?: I'm building a Solar Pannel. I'm using 36 3" X 6" cells wired in series. They are supposed to be worth about 1/2 volt each under ideal conditions, but I've seen a pannel built with the same cells put out nearly 19 volts. Maximum current output is something like 3.3 amps. I want to use it to charge a bank of deep cycle batteries. I've already got all the parts for the pannel and I'm in the process of building it. The one thing I haven't gotten figured out yet is the charge controller . . . I can buy cheap, made in China unit that is supposed to handle up to 22 volts input an 7 amps of current from Harbor Freight for about $30 bucks . . . but considering what I'll have tied up in the pannel (about $125 bucks) and in the batteries (I haven't priced them yet, but since China has started buying up all the lead to paint Hot Wheels with, I they are EXPENSIVE), I want to have a good controller and I just don't have a lot of faith in an electronic part made in China for Harbor Freight to sell cheap. I'm trying to keep this project as low budget as possible, and I was wondering  . . . Is there some way to rig up a Bosch solid state regulator for a 12 volt generator to do the job? If so, how would I wire it up? :?
