Shifting techniques - keep your 'box from crashing!

« on: February 16, 2003, 10:02:38 AM »
Just trying to start a line of conversation/debate here.  Heel-and toeing?  Double-clutching?  Rev-matching?  Down-shifting?  What pedal tap-dance techniques do you use?  How often do you need a new clutch?

A personal technique up for debate:  I decided that to shift out of gear into neutral just at the point when I lift the throttle and there's no pull or drag on the box would save me a push of the pedal if I'm coming up on a stop.  It slips right out if you time it right, and I can't think of any way it might hurt (it hasn't caused any problems yet).  Is there anything I'm overlooking?

Any gearbox questions, comments, tips welcome!

I have to double-clutch when shifting from second to third. I believe it's due to bad syncros in my transmission.
