Scrubbin sounds?

My bug keeps making weird scrubbing sounds from the rear. It freaky. If I turn hard left I hear it on the right rear. And the oppisite when turninghard right. I thought it was the brakes but I guess not. It's not a tire scrub so I'm lost. Any ideas?

I also have been sprouting oil leaks like crazy. I need to put some loc-tite on my darn bolts. It starts,I tighten it goes away and later starts somewhere else.I guess if it ain't leaking I'm outta oil. :lol:

Scott. Have you had your rear drums off lately ? If you have ,go back and re-torque the axle nuts and see if the noise goes away. If they run loose for a while the splines in the drums will wear out. You will see some redish looking powder around the big nut. Torque them around 250 foot pds.
Oil leaks ? From where ? Give me a clue.

Scott, I would take the drums off if you find them loose and clean all the dust and rust from the splines. Then put a light coat of grease on the axle and drums. You can jack the car up and shake the rear drums to see if they are loose.

Sounds good. I'll give it a try. I probably need to do a brake job on it anyways. How much is that gonna run? Where's the place to get the parts. I figured I'd ask so I don't buy some more pep boys lemon parts.I think I might pay Lockhart to do it,so I don't break something.

The oil leaks are comming from around the generator stand. I just can't seem to keep that sucker tightened down. Seems like every bolt on it needs to be tightened every few weeks. I've just started designating every other Saturay to VW bolt tightening day.

I keep tryin to find it but no dice. I do however need brakes.Do they sell new drums and all at mainly foreign? What all should i need for the whole brake job?I remember not being good with drum brakes.How much should this set me back? And do I need that funny bar thingy in the back. You saw it when I was at your house and comented on it.
