rust

« on: April 25, 2011, 10:14:49 PM »
hey guys....my beetle starts right away..(as u know i had a very hard time with the distributor)....the engine sounds beautiful....sometimes I just sit behnid the car and ennjoy listening and watching the engine run.

anyways..i was wondering if u know anybody who can help me change the heater channels...I have the new parts...the jobs seems to need somebody with welding skills.
I was watching the bugme video for replacing the heating channel...it makes u think that is pretty easy.....but as i have learned with my bug so far...everything seems to be easy but it turns out to be challenging and fun and time consuming :)
in other words --> big job, need help

Thanks guys
Roberto

Roberto....

In short, this is NOT an easy job.  I have done them more than once.  They are a pain to remove, a pain to align, a pain to weld back in, an, if you haven't done everything just right, your doors won't shut right again.  Keep in mind that you are messing with a structural point of the car, not just tacking in panels here.  These should not be done by a novice welder.  I am currently not taking anything in.  That may change later on, but not any time real soon.  My advice, get it to somebody who has done them before, and DOES A GOOD JOB OF PUTTING THEM IN.  The latter seems to be an issue.  I know of a guy in Kingsport who does them, and very reasonably, less than i have charged, but he's three hours away.  There is no such thing in my opinion as "somebody helping you put them in"....

I'm just sayin'....  ;)
