OK, here's the situation . . . you heard about a nice VW that was parked years ago because of a minor problem. After 10 years the owner finally admits to himself that he's not going to do anything with it and wants to sell it cheap. You know you can fix the mechanical stuff, but how are you going get those mold and mildew stains out of an otherwise perfect interior?
** Just in case you are wondering, I've determined that the vinyl used in VW headliners and seat covers combind with ANY humidity and rolled up windows for more that 6 months is THE PERFECT medium for growing mold and mildew . . . try it if you don't believe me! **
Anyway, you buy the car, drag it home, and a few hours later it's roadworthy again. But it's still plagued with those mold and mildew stains. No matter how much you scrub them, they don't seem to get much better. What do you do?
Have you ever seen those Oxyclean commercials? Yeah, the ones where the guy is just way to excited about some cleaning product that you are sure doesn't work. Now that you remember the commercial, do you remember how much mold and mildew was on my bus headliner and sun visors? If you don't remember, the headliner and visors were almost black, even though they were made with white vinyl. I've tried scrubbing it off with several spray cleaners, but nothing has really done much good until now.
The other night I bought a small tub of Oxyclean at Wal-Mart for about $7. I took a large tea stain out of our off-white carpet in the living room with it. I just mixed a tiny amount of the powder in a pint jar of water, poured it on the stain and rubbed it with a dry rag . . . and wa-la, no more stain!!!! Just like in the commercial! So, I decided to try it on the mold in my bus. I sponged it on, let it soak for a couple of minutes, and wiped it off with a wet rag. IT LOOKS ALMOST NEW!!! I'm amazed! This stuff is pretty good! No, it's REALLY GOOD! No, IT'S GRRRRRREAT!!! Now I know why the guy in the commercial is so excited!
