radio problem

« on: September 19, 2008, 07:31:23 AM »
I have a 72 super bettle and recently had a new am/fm/cd player insdtlled at the radio clinic. There was noise and a jerky sound on the FM bands (sort of like when you fast forward a CD. the godfather suggested a noise suppressor; that didn't work. There is no static on the AM stations or the cd player, when David thought was rather odd. They put in a new radio thinking the first one was faultly. still doing the same thing. When the motor is shut off, the FM stations are clear as a bell, so I've eliminated a speaker or antenna problem. Any suggestions as to what the problem might be. The installer at the clinic assures me the radio was properly grounded.

i would personally check the ground and then make sure that your antenna wire isnt running over any major power cables....  dont know if you've tried a difrent antenna, but i would just in case the cable is damaged near a power cable that only has power running through it when the car is running.  also checking the battery ground might be worth a shot. thats all i got.  best of luck!

I am wanting something with a little more umph than the little 8 ohm speaker in the dash.  My AM w/FM modulator set up is like 36 years old and is REAL finiky to tune into a station.  I can only stand sunny 92.3 for so long!!!!!  :(  Any way, I wold like to see where others are putting their auxillary speakers.  I DO NOT want to cut holes in my original BLUE door panels.  I have thought about a box in the back storage area.....
It seems that I saw a kit or something that would let you mount the speakers inside the car under the dash and on the outside face.  I also have an in dash mp3 player that I want to put into my new plastic glove box.....
Any way, let me know what you guys are doing....

That and a pair of kick panels are about the best if you dont want to cut anything. Beware the shipping on the parcel tray cover  its almost a smuch as the part.  You can make one fairley easily out of 1/2 MDF.

Don't forget good resistor plugs and quality plug wires!!  You still running points?  They must be in good shape as well as your alternator and all the wires for that including a good ground.  Transaxle to body ground strap installed?  You can always get a suitcase, mount your speakers in that and put it in behind your rear seat...I know a guy that did that :D

You might talk me out of a pair of Blaupunkt 6X9s and a 10" woofer in boxes made to fit behind the back seat of a Beetle!
