I take it that you just replaced the burned piston and did not split the case ?    All that scrap could be "left over" stuff that wasn't cleaned/washed out of the case properly ( can be hard to do)  Sometimes you can get away with it ,sometimes you don't.   The big stuff will more than likey lay in the bottom of the case out of the way, but the little particles manage to find their way through the bearings etc.  via the oil. This is why you are seeing this stuff in the valve cover. Your call.

yea the burnt piston ordeal was basically a patch job aparently...  i guess i need to start buying parts.  hopefully the case is still useable.  any thoughts on where to start.  The case is an AE.  if i do have to drive it should i just pay close attention to oil temp, and hopefully that well show if a bearing is going out..?

I would think your case would be ok .   It might need to be alignbored, but we wouldn't know that until its torn down. I can do that for you if ness.
I would park it until you have time to work on it.   Burning a bearing will cost you a crankshaft and worse yet ,throw a rod though the case and then you are in the BIG money zone.  Its Your coal truck, drive it if you want to

What the Godfather said.  Think of it like this.....do you really think it matters how quickly you can pull off of the road and turn off the ignition key when the engine is turning 3000+ rpms?
Better safe then VERY sorry.

anybody got some good used parts! im in the market.

probly gonna go ahead and get new pistons, and cylinders... has 1641's in it now... going back to stock to keep my beast cooler.

oil cooler is probly a must, used will probly do ok im sure.

cant really tell on the inside yet, but im sure it needs a new dist. drive gear... that will help my sparatic timing hopefully

bearings around

lots of small stuff that i cant think of im sure.

i guess i can build it in the back of the van since i dont have a garage. kinda makes my back hurt thinkin about it.

if anybody has advice on what to get ready let me know. i dont wanna half ass is and be screwed 6 months later.

im sure ill need some case work done.  i would like to have it full flow so i can add in a filter/extra cooler.  probly gunna need a new oil pump for that though.

"good used parts" = half-assed.

trust me on this one.

seen it happen too many times.  if there's nuthin wrong with what you take out, you're better off using your own stuff, and supplement that with new goodies.

I think Zen prefers to use the term  " Pre-Tested" This the reason it works for Homer.   Homer doesn't understand the term   "Worn Plum Out"
