We've had a time with the engine we put in Big Johnson's "Rusty". It ran fine for a couple of days then started making a lot of valve noise. We adjusted the valves and that seemed to help for a few minutes then the engine started running real rough but not making as much noise.
We pulled the engine back out because a compression check showed we only had about 30lbs of pressure in both #3 and #4 cylinders. After getting the engine out and into the shop, we started dismantling and on popping off the valve cover for #3and 4 we found the rocker are assyembly laying in the valve cover. :help Closer inspection reveled one of the studs which holds the assy. on had broken and the vibrations loosened the other nut. BOTH HAD BEEN TORQUED TO SPECS.
This was a replacement head that was donated by Randy Schneck so we couldn't gripe too much :cussing:
The points of this story;
(1) Even when you do everything right something can always go wrong! (Murphy Rules) :3dconfused:
(2) "Rusty" still ran good enough on 2 cylinders to get Eric and I to and from Cleveland the evening it happened
