New motor valve adjustment

« on: June 05, 2006, 01:06:38 PM »
I fired up my brand new mexican 1600 motor.  I had the valves set pretty loose at first.  I ran it about 20 minutes last night.  Today I drained the oil and am about to adjust the valves.  With the motor still new and not broken in,  should the valves still be adjusted kinda loose, like 008 or even 010, or should I go straight to 006 ?  Any other advice for breaking it in ?  Thanks,

You can go to .006 . I would drive about 600 miles, change oil and adjust valves.  Adjust valves every 6000 miles. Some people change oil at 1500 miles because of no filter.
Where do you have your timing set and how did you set it ?  How many marks does your pulley have and which one did you use ?  This is very, very important.
