All right Aaron ,What have you done now ? :lol: The little spring is suppose to hold the brake pedal up. The hook wraps around the back of the pedal.
When you pulled the insulation board off, you should see a bunch of tabs that were bent over. They are sharp ,pointy things. Take something and bend them out. You then push the new board on and when the tabs come though the board you bend them back over to hold the board . You can use some kind of glue if you want to. There is all kinds out there. On the side pieces, I think what you have torn off is where you were supposed to fold the panel to make it fit over to the engine. There are tabs to hold these panels in also.
Aaron, you need to slow down and look at things before you start tearing and ripping stuff out . Make notes , take photos, look at other VWs. I know you are new to VWs and some of this stuff is alien to you, but you are going to have to do it before it gets over your head and somthing expensive happens. Dig ? I speak from experience here.
