New Clutch Cable and New Gas Cable.. And how do I install..

« on: April 13, 2005, 08:02:45 PM »
Hey there everyone, Well today I cleaned and sprayed undercoat with sound eliminator in the hump where the tranny goes and all around it to quiten it down a bit. Anyway I put in a new clutch cable" the guy at american foriegn auto says it is very hard to put them back in." But guess I got lucky because They slid right into place for me.. Anyway the hardest problem I had was getting that bolt in the hole next to the wall inside the car where the pedal assy bolts too.. I got it back in but I am wanderin does the brake spring end that is the longest go behind that peice that is bolted to the floor pan? it looks like it has to go there so it can hold tension. Although I am not really for sure. Can someone help me on that? It looks like I got it all right but Not sure... Another thing is that I baught brand new firewall material and am not sure how to install it. I have been lookin on the net without success.. Can someone help me on this please? I want to make sure I have the firewall stuff on there good. And what kind of glue should i use??? I also noticed that there is perforated parts on the sides of the triangle shape firewall material.. I tore them off because I thought that is the way it fits. but now i am thinkin i have messed up... I would appreciate any info in this matter. Thanks everyone and have a great day..     :o

All right Aaron ,What have you done now ?   The little spring is suppose to hold the brake pedal up. The hook wraps around the back of the pedal.
When you pulled the insulation board off, you should see a bunch of tabs that were bent over. They are sharp ,pointy things. Take something and bend them out. You then push the new board on and when the tabs come though the board you bend them back over to hold the board . You can use some kind of glue if you want to. There is all kinds out there. On the side pieces, I think what you have torn off is where you were supposed to fold the panel to make it fit over to the engine. There are tabs to hold these panels in also.
Aaron, you need to slow down and look at things before you start tearing and  ripping stuff out . Make notes , take photos, look at other VWs. I know you are new to VWs and some of this stuff is alien to you, but you are going to have to do it before it gets over your head and somthing expensive happens. Dig ?  I speak from experience here. Belive Me !!

I believe you. I really do, but the side peices that i tore off they wouldn't even fit in the holes so that is why i tore them off..  Oh well If I messed them up guess i wil have to wait and buy new ones later... Thanks anyway. And have you talked with that guy on the 009 dizzy?? I will have to take it off ebay.. And will do so today if he wants it. Thanks. And I thought they were perforated for a reason not to bend back.. I know that they fit in there little places wierd. the corners come out to far.. lol..

OK here we go. This is the best I could do. I heated up the material with a heat gun " hair dryer" and installed it, but most of the sharp thingys didn't want to go through and the ones that did was like man rippin the board. Anyway it is done as far as i am concered and it really doesn't look that bad. i was going to spray the thing down with satin semi gloss or may just clean it up. i manged to get atleast 4 hooks through and she seems tight... so anyway here we go. let me know what ya think david..

Looks  OK to me as long as it stays put and not in the fan.  Consider the dist. sold. He will pay me at BP-7 if you don`t come up. You need to make if you can. You would learn a lot and gain a lot of info besides being able to see some fantastic cars. Come on and bring your camera. Its an Order

well david, i will see what i can do.. I mayeven take half a day saturday so i can rest some when i get home.. So far now the material is pretty solid in there.. it is pushed all the way at the top as far as it will go, but i Know that doesn't really matter seeing when the heat gets up there it will probley fall and that is when i will pull the engine again and put it up there for good. but right now she is solid.. And I wished really that I could be up there sat and be there with everyone but really right now the money is tight and i have to work as much as i can.. I hope you understand. IF I come I will bring a cam that is for sure..

I was wanderin because if it is then i will just put that money on a exhaust system. Let me know. I am going to andalusia,al tonight and should be back before tomorrow.
