Need local machine work.

« on: August 10, 2014, 04:28:39 PM »
Hello all, New registered user, trying to figure out how to work the forum. Have met some of you at Bugappalooza and cruise in. So Im rebuilding a 1600 dp and need some machine work, case cleaned, heads done, maybe open case for bigger cylinders and polish a crank. would like to find someone who knows vw's.
               Thank you, Brian

Tony with aircooledwerk should be able to tell you everything you need to know. Most any machine shop should be able to clean the case. You'd probably want a VW specialist to machine the case. Rebuilding the heads shouldn't be too hard but it might be cost prohibitive to have someone rebuild them vs buying what you want already done.

There are a few guys on here that could definitely help you get started. I will say that you will most likely need to learn how to do everything yourself since most mechanics don't know VWs anymore.

Thanks Nick, I will.give them a call.  I know they specialize in transmissions, which i will need soon, mine has a bad leak. I can handle the rebuild, but was looking for somewhere too have the machinework done by other vw enthusiasts, feel like you get a better job and having the correct tools for a job and knowledge for an aircooled vw. I agree with you, most shops wont work on vws or older cars. Thanks for the info.    Have been trying to make it to a cruise in my rail has the  cvs out of it and the bug is well......off the pan.

New heads are about $150. Almost better to buy than rebuild unless you can find a rebuilder that will do it for about $80 a head.
