need 2.o head

« on: July 18, 2014, 12:32:27 PM »
ok so for those of you who dont know whats going on :

no compression on #4
replaced:
plugs
wires
cap
button
pertronix
fuel pump
fuel filter

....then i was smart enough to take the dang valve cover off and see the problem...

the rockers are attached to the head by 2 bolts.  1 of which has been sheared off.  and the other was sheared off and repaired with a thread adapter in the past.  the one with the thread adapter pulled right out.

so, i cant re-drill it.  there is not enough material.  it will just crack.

so i need a new head

2.0
drivers side

anyone have one or know who does BEFORE i go order one online ?!?

three weeks ago, there was a type IV engine sitting behind a bus at the CFC Pick n Pull in Tullahoma, TN. It had both heads on it, but I couldn't verify the condition. Price is $55 for a head without a cam, plus a $10 core charge.

It was from an earlier "late" bay, so it might have been a 1.7 or 1.8, but then again, they have almost all been rebuilt, and most likely built up. Might be worth checking out.

Take wasp spray.

Don't buy GEX!!!! Do some research on them before you do and you won't want it!!!

I think HAM Inc  is the preferred place with a good history.

That sounds about right. I guess you could find a buddy and go in on it, or buy the pair and swap both heads out, then sell your other two on the samba to recoup some of the money. The good news is that your "bad" head hasn't suffered the typical injury of a dropped valve seat. Someone might actually weld all of that back up and repair them

X2 on staying away from GEX.  I've heard lots of stories about GEX engines, parts and customer service, and they have ALL been bad.  I can't believe they are still in business!
