Why do I think I am going to end up just setting this thing on fire and calling it an accident. Just kidding. It always amazes me how easy it is to take stuff apart. I am sure I will be back for more advice on this one. Thanks for all the help guys.

HELP!!  Ok, I finally got everything put back together on my son's bus and went to adjust the valves. It won't turn past 180 degrees in either direction. I am now sick of working on it and his Grandfather has agreed to pay for a"professional" to get it running. If we can just get it back on the road for now, that would be great. We are also talking about either doing a rebuild on the motor or buying a new motor for it.

Rick at R&M has worked on it before.. Care to take a stab at it?

What are everyones thoughts on the rebuild vs. new motor?

yikes.  Cofused ..... Do you mean the screw won't move more than 180 degrees either way?

Need more info.

What EXACTLY did you do when it was torn down?  I'd say send it to Rick at R&M, if he can't get to it, i may be able to.

Whoops !   Please tell that you did not drop something down one of the intake ports.  Did you replace the head or repaired the plug hole ?

I pulled the head and Travis repaired it for me with a Heli-coil. All the holes were plugged so I don't see how something fell down in there. I am just out of my league on this one.

Just asking. I still smell a rat though .  You had to have the intake pipes off and thats a good time to drop something.  You can ask me about that sometime     Lets hope its something simple. I'm just guessing here :?

I had a wadded up Wendy's bag in each of the holes. I wish it was that easy though.

 this is not sounding very good.  I am like David, (just better looking)  I would be wondering if something fell in and got lodged in there.

My ASBugs engine did that, but it was because we had the engine upside down on the engine stand with the dist. out and the drive gear got loosey goosey.
Fixed that and all was well.
You left the engine in for this didn't you?

You are removing the spark plugs prior to trying to rotate the engine, right?

Strange.
Sounds like a gear isn't meshing or you dropped some thing in the cyl.

Might have to pull the head off...
Again.
KC-out.

KC You were lucky that the two steel washer didn't fall off the dist. drive gear if the gear slipped far enough . You ought to see what one of those little washer can do to a alum. camshaft gear. Its not a pretty picture :(  I don't think that happen to Ruttco . Time will tell but I'm sticking to the "thingy" in one of the cyl.  I hope I'm wrong.  It wouldn't be the first time
Ruttco, DO NOT SPIN THE ENGINE OVER WITH THE STARTER until you find the problem. I knocked a dime size hole in a brand new piston/cyl. with a engine tin screw/washer . You should have heard the noise. Made the hair stand up on the back of my neck

Might be a long shot, but did you have the fan and or shroud off of it?  Or did you work around?  Could something on the fan be binding?  I saw a type 4 engine one time that a guy worked on, thought he locked it up, i found that he had used the wrong bolts (too long) to attatch the fan to the hub, they drove into the crank seal, basically acting like a stop.  Just an idea....
