Mild custom or not?

« on: September 09, 2007, 11:00:19 AM »
I am thinking about replacing the bumpers on my '69 Beetle because they have some rust. Does anyone have a picture or opinion of a Beetle that the squared bumpers have been replaced with chrome blade bumpers?  :?

I am also thinking of replacing my stock headlights with the glass covered type on '66 Beetles. Can it be done? Anyone have a picture or opinion on this? :?

I don't have any pictures, but both of those modification are pretty easy.  Mid-America Motorworks sells bumper brackets that bolt onto the 68-73 Beetles but hold the 67 and back bumper blades.  If I'm not mistaken, they don't go through the fenders, they go under them.  For the early headlights, you can just bolt on early fenders or some of Creative Car Craft's fiberglass fenders.  As for looks . . . the pre-67 look beats the post-67 look hands down any day of the week.

I have been considering those bumpers and brackets for front and rear. I am not crazy about having the brackets not come out of the slots that are in the fenders.

I am just having my front clip reinstalled and painted because it was replaced too high causing the hood not to close completely; therefore, I don't want to have to replace and repaint the fenders. Maybe there is a way just to install in the old style headlights in my current fenders.
