Mechanical Fuel Pump Shims - Who Sells them Local?

« on: March 18, 2011, 01:04:34 AM »
I need to put a new mechanical fuel pump in a 66 bug and I will need shims. Is there anyplace local to Chattanooga that sells them? I don't want to have to order from Wolfsburg West for these items.... Thanks

Shims?

I know of paper gaskets (upper and lower) and a "stand-off"

I don't understand what "shims" you are speaking of.   ???

Shims ?    Why do you need shims ?  No such thing. Like Rick said --2 paper gaskets, and a " stand off".  Are you trying to put a late angle pump (to clear alt.)instead of the" straight up " old model pump ?   The pump push rods are different lenghts . Does this car have the original engine/ with a Gen. ? Old model pump uses the longer rod. If you try to use the long rod on a "angle "pump ,its a good chance you have already knocked the bottom out of the pump.

Sorry. Shims=Gaskets. I wrote that late last night and was thinking of the way pump delivery can be altered by adding or removing them.

It's a OEM pump on a stock engine with a stock generator.

Well there you go. When you buy the new pump the gaskets should be in the box.

I have 2 spare bottom gaskets if you still need them. I think they would work on the top also. If anyone knows why not let me know. I can give you my cell # if you want to give it a shot.
