manifold gasket

« on: March 27, 2010, 05:34:27 PM »
i took my intake off last fall and with the warm weather i can get back out to replace it. my question is i have dual port heads so which way do I turn the new gaskets, do I turn the rib side of the gasket up or down?

Rib up please.  It wouldn't hurt to run a fine file over the mating surface of the manifold just enough to make sure it flat. I have seen them bow up due to over torquing .

There's also a place over in Dalton called American Foreign and Al Johnson's VW dealership in Dalton still carries a lot of air-cooled parts.  The best place to buy gaskets and such is the swap meet at Bug-A-Paluza.  You can find mail order prices with no shipping and you get to see what you are getting before you hand over the money.  Even if you have your leak fixed before then, I'd pick up a couple of gasket sets at the show.  You never know when you might need them.

It is Joe at Tri-State Imports in Cleveland that's been advertising on Craigslist.  I have purchased some parts from him and think he's a nice guy.

Justin rented a house from him for a while several years ago.  Definitly a good guy to deal with.    :)
