Well, the springs are what holds your wonderful bulbous fenders off the rubber circles in the middle of them.  I would imagine that Eldon took off said rubber circles and installed shorter springs to bring the fender a little closer  :tounge2:

PS Perk, I think you NEED this too :3dbigsmile:

I'm with Perk though, I'd like to know details, are there struts at all 4 corners or struts in the front and springs on the rear?  How much were the springs?  What brand did you go with, what spring rate?  How low did it drop?  How's the ride?  Did you upgrade shocks when you did it?

Most importantly, did you get a new alignment???  We need details dude!

they are H&R lowering springs, I bought the set for 100.00 and Eldon installed for a very reasonable price...

I wish now that I had upgraded the shocks and struts (I think thats right? struts front? shocks rear? right ? #### I dont know, ask Eldons he's the tech....)
I didnt even think about it, It was kind of a last minute thing....:spank:

the car rides a little stiffer, I can feel every bump....
but it handles much better, it still could us some more stuff to completely get the roll out but its way better....
It brought the car down about 2 inches....
It doesnt feel like I need an alignment, but Im going to go get one anyway just to be safe....

Next project is a Nspeed P-flo air filter kit (its ordered) and a flow master.....Vvvvvvvrrrrrrooooomm Vvvvvvvrrrrrrooooomm
:devilfire:
...hey, at least it will sound fast!  :mecry:
I dont think Perks car needs any up grades?
Maybe a Chip? Auto pilot?
the turbos have a better sports supension, plus he has 17 wheels....

Yes, #### is a bad word. You can't say ####, either. Or ####, as in "#### ### #### and #### ####ing #### with a ####". Oh, you can't say #### either, but that's a whole other story. Just keep the #### and #### down to a minimum, and don't #### the #### ####. There's like, children on here or some ####. And Perk gets offended when you say #### ####.

Oh No  :help  he's fallen victim to the Rice-a-roni mentality folks, next he will be convinced that a wing about 4' tall and 6' wide will increase his HP output by about 20!  (actually I like the little wings that are sold for the beetle they compliment it rather well,) You all know the ones I'm referring to that cling to the decklids of so many hondas.

I will be adding struts and springs to Freaky as soon as I get them in (anytime now).  Looks like I need  to talk to Eldon.  So we will be able to compare a Beetle equipped with just springs and a Beetle equipped with struts and springs.  Mine will be Neuspeed sport springs and Koni struts.

Wasn't really a shot Jai, I'm all for added performance, and I fully understand all the added benefits of extra flow.  I happen to have a performance exhaust and a Cold Air Intake on my  :whatsthat: Civic, but I hate that it has to make more noise than stock (and it's the quietest higher flow muffler available).  BTW, I also have Neuspeed Sport springs on said Civic, ...trying to make it a little german :3dbigsmile:

What I don't understand is the folks that put the loudest gawdawfull muffler they can find on the back end of thier car because it is supposedly indicating it's that much faster.

(This isn't at all a shot at you either Tommy, just my opinions on the subject, and generally the mention of the word "Flowmaster" conjures up images of interesting people in Camaro Irocs in search of the loudest noise levels this side of the airport) ....not that I'm trying to offend the Iroc crowd....ah ####, I give up, isn't a guy allowed to have opinions  :devilfire:

Im not trying top make it sound like a buzzzzzz bomb, just make it run a lil faster and have a beefy sound....
If you listen to Jai's car it sounds really good, makes it sound more German, and isnt that what we want?....
not uuuuuzzzzzzeee like a burito........
not like a loud cheap ricer sound either....
flow master makes a delta muffler thats not as loud as the Chevy type, so I may try that, just so my car doesnt sound just like Jais?
not sure yet though I may go for it?

later, doom

No problem VWTrav!  I call it my redneck muffler anyway! :D   I wanted something completely different than any other water-cooled vw and that is what I got!  Better performance and a nice growl. If you like quiet a quiet exhaust system, it is not for you!  I set off car alarms all the time.

As far as the springs go, the H&Rs and Neuspeed Sports will lower the car 1.5 inches (about 30-50% stiffer than stock).  There are springs that will lower the car 2 inches and be up to 100% stiffer than stock (like the Neuspeed Race Springs), but you will need an aftermarket sway bar if you go this low (the stock sway bar will hit the drive train).  The front of the New Beetle is a McPherson Strut with the springs over the struts.  The rear is just a shock and spring separate from each other.  If you go with coilovers you can get the car much lower, but in my personal opinion that would be too low for the area we live in.  Expect new springs to be in the $200 range and coilovers to be in the $1200 range.  An aftermarket front sway bar is around $200 as well.  If you really want to help body roll, a rear sway bar will bolt on using longer bolts for the rear shocks (about $225).
