Out of curiosity, how do you run the accelerator cable? mine reaches...but just barely! It kinda has to do a z bend to get around the upper trans mount bolts and then up into the tube through the shroud, and finally to the carb. It seems that that pesky little upper mount thing is the problem. Zen, how did you circumnavigate this problem?

I'm keeping my eyes out for another trans. Might have some good leads.

I can get a 3 rib for $300is maybe $350, but they don't have the upper mounts. How switchable are those? Would the 3 rib work well for the 1600?

A bus 3 rib will be geared lower for the less HP of the 1500-1600 SP engine.

I didn't do the initial conversion so I'm not really sure how it's fed through upper mount.  I've forgot to run it through the shroud a time or two when I was installing an engine and the end is getting pretty frayed.  It won't be long before I have to install a new one . . . guess I'll find out then. And, yes, it BARELY reaches.  If you could find a cable about an inch longer, it would be just about right.

I was told that if I was going to put a type 1 motor in it AND I had to fix the transmission, I should try to find a 6 rib so that I could cruise at highway speeds. I was thinking that the low end would be the problem though, which is why I was thinking a 3 rib would work (since it was geared for a type 1 from the start). Anyone have advice on this? I wouldn't be opposed to a 6 rib... whats the story on it. Are you willing to sell it? PM me a price (I'm cheap so don't be offended  ;D)

I started with a 3 rib and now have a 6 rib.  There really isn't that much difference in the gearing.  On the bottom end, I really didn't notice any difference.  On the top end, the engine runs a little slower at the same speed, but it's seems I have to downshift to 3rd a little sooner on long steep hills. Overall, the main advantage I've seen is the 6 rib doesn't jump out of 4th gear.   ;D
