KING RAT, the birth

« on: February 22, 2009, 04:38:58 PM »
I have begun the task of stripping away the old floor insulation in the 66 bug I bought last week. Not as bad a it could have been. I found some rust holes in the left rear pan. Is it safe to replace just the rear pans only? Remember, this is not a rest job, but a fairly nice rat rod. Yea, im going to do the whole front stretch thing, fat white walls and all.

Does the body have to come off to do a full pan replacement? I have removed two bodies years ago to make kit cars.  this was done in a shop with help. I'm doing this at home. Now have all fenders off and the body looks solid. Thanks for the word.

no .all you'll have to do is unbolt the pan from the heater channel side and across the back and front if there are any there.be sure to match the pan up size wise to be sure its got the "lips"front and rear.you can break the pan itself loose from the tunnel with an air hammer or BAH and chissel.
