« on: February 04, 2015, 11:59:23 AM »

I have a hand reamer for KP front ends that is what you need, only problem is I do not loan it out.
You can bring your beam over and use it I live in Varnell GA, but I cannot let it out of my sight...
I loaned it out to a VW mechanic friend of mine and 1 year later and many asks for it back, I had to just be rude and show up unannounced to get it at his shop.

I've never actually worked on king pins, so I'm a little in the dark about what the proper reamer looks like or how it works, but I'll just throw this out there . . .

I have an adjustable reamer I bought to use on my antique Maytag crank bushings.  One of the guys that sells Maytag bushings sells the same reamer for $59, but I found it on eBay for something like $12 including shipping.  It's made in China (of course) but it looks and feels like a good quality reamer and they had had them in a variety of sizes.  Maytag crank bushings are supposed to be 0.875" I.D. (7/8")  Pressing them in the crank housing collapses them slightly, so they need to be reamed.  With the adjustable reamer, you can adjust it down from 0.875" to make up for a little wear on the crankshaft if needed.  The reamer I bought is adjustable from 0.84375 (27/32") to 0.9375 (15/16")

It would seem to me that the proper size adjustable reamer like the one I have should do the trick for kingpin bushings . . . shouldn't it?

Thanks for the responses, I'm going by Arrow tomorrow so they can look and see if they have one. Just got the new ones in hand today. KC thanks for the offer if I turn up empty handed, I may have to pay a visit. I checked with Walter a woods, they have one the size but it's to short. I will let everyone  know who can do it for future  needs. Thanks again.

Below is the eBay store where I got mine last year.  I think it was around $12 . . . . now it's $112!  It has the same part # as mine.  The size above it is over $200 . . . but all the sizes below it are $10 or less.     ???    Anyway, here it is:  http://stores.ebay.com/Discount-Machine-Shop/Reamer-Counterbore-Countersink-/_i.html?_fsub=1236308016&_sid=103347546&_trksid=p4634.c0.m322

I actually bought an adjustable reamer from the same seller a few years ago when I did the bushings on my car. I also paid like $12.  :o

I'll get mine out and get some photos, it isn't a normal reamer. it has a step down area on it. You just gotta see it.

Cool, Thanks Tony. I will try to hook up with you this next week. I have gotten  no where with multiple  machine shops, Arrow and Roberts where extremely helpful and others I won't mention wouldn't even look at them  while standing at there desk.  That's how it goes. No biggie. I was thinking that a sunnen rod hone for the wrist pins would be able to do this job. It was just a little smaller for the tooling at 18mm. I never realized how many machine shops there are in town. Thanks for all the help eveyone.
