Key Cutter

Here's a tech tip for you . . . not exactly a Volkswagen tech tip, but it could be VW related:

If you buy a key machine off of eBay, don't assume the motor is running in the right direction!  Anyone that's watched me cut a key with the cutter (a "rotory file") running backwards will be amazed at how fast and clean it cuts now that I've got it running in the correct direction!

I wondered why it was bogging down, throwing shavings up in my face and leaving a very rough edge.  I rubbed my finger across the cutter tonight and realized it felt smooth in one direction, but would dig in the other.  I mounted it on a short piece of 2X6 so I could turn the motor around an now it will cut a key in about a half second vs. about a minute before!

To quote a great saying "when all else fails, read the directions"  :D  :;):   Oh Yeah, it didn't come with directions did it?     LOL
