Aaron, I take it you mean Trac. arm bushings. Ones from the spindle to the center of the car. The strut will seperate from the spindle. 3 bolts w/safety locks. These can be a REAL bitch to get apart. You have to seperate them to replace the ball joints.  If you can bring me the arms and bushings I can replace them.I would have to go to Lockharts to use his bushing press. If you didn't need ball joints I could have replace your struts inserts and bushings on the car in about 2 hours. Your ball joints are whats going to be the bitch most of the time seeing you haven't done these before. Not a fun job.  I hope you marked the bolts on the trac-arms before you took them out . They are you camber ajustment bolts. You will have to get the front aligned anyway. I just love Super Beetles

Yeah david the ball joints are shot. And I will mark after I clean the camber bolts I will mark them all the way across to make a straight line to line up too.. Also another front end alignment will be in order. Not a problem. What kind of bushings do you reccomend? Also what about you doing my strut inserts and get them back to where I can just bolt them back in? I would like all this done. let me know please. Thank you..  Also. There is alot of stuff I haven't done before lol. I put new tie rod ends on and them were like welded together LOL... I am still learning..    :D  :D

Aaron, Get them to me. As far as your parts go, If you are going to furnish them, get the best that you can afford. We need to check out the strut top caps to be sure the bearings are OK. You can't really tell about these until you take the coil spring off.

Yeah I hope they are ok. I know them things are outragous. I turned one of them and seems fine but like you said you never know.. I hope they aren't bad.. I will get the parts off first... I haven't had time to beat on the spindle a bit to tap it loose fromt he strut. But once I do I will take off the control arm and try to get the other off..
What do you think it will cost me? I really need to know..

Aaron, if you are looking for parts for a Super Beetle front end, look here:  http://www.toplineparts.com . . . they have the best Super Beetle bushings on the market.  And they don't just sell parts . . . every time I've delt with them, the guy on the phone had driven a Super Beetle to work.  These folks drive and race Supers daily.  They know their stuff and they have good parts.  They don't have cheap parts, but they do have good ones.  Their web site has lots of info.  It's good reading material if you plan to work on a Super Beetle.

Yes I was going to. I have a guy that is intrested in some almost new sterio equip that I have and he says he will trade me even for all the bug parts that I need. I am sure these are OEM, he works on them for a living is what I am guessing. I guess he gets the parts cheaper than what I can. He is still getting a deal of over 1grand worth of stero equip for less than 400 lol.. So as I beat away on the strut trying to make it break away i will be waiting on him... Anymore suggestions on how to persuade this b**** to come out? I was thinkin about torchin it a little to heat it up then slightly tap around it.. What ya think?

Aaron, I don't how you are going about removing the strut. You should have the load off the strut and out from under the fender. If you take the 2 bolts out from the sway bar bracket ( 1 per side) , the strut will swing out after removing the 2 nuts on top (in trunk) NOT THE CENTER NUT.

New steerin damper bushing installed today

« Reply #25 on: November 12, 2005, 01:05:32 PM »
Well everyone I had someone come look at the bug today, decided that I didn't need to sell it after all. I put a new steering damper bushing it in and wow, took most of the shimmy out. There is now just a bit, still pulls to the right i figure because the strut, maybe the control arm. David soon as I figure out how to get the struts off I will get them off and bring you them and the control arms. I will get some german ball joints if you can press them in for me. Thank you..
