Why did  you take the heater boxes off ?  You will be looking for them next winter. Every little bit counts in the heat department  ;D ;D  BLOCK THE OUTLETS OFF AT THE FAN HOUSING . NO RAGS NO DUCT TAPE  Unless you sign a contract with me to rebuild you engine when it melts down. :o  Those ports in the housing are outlets not returns.
If left open about 60% or more of your cooling air blows outdoors and not over the Cyl.'s . Not a Good thing.

It also helps with the cooling if you cover the holes in the tin where the fresh air hoses went through.  If left open, hot air off the bottom of the engine will be sucked back into the upper engine compartment and that pre-heated air will be pulled back into the cooling system.   ;)
