That doesn't sound good. What type of carb setup do you have?
I can't imagine it being a head bolt too loose. Perhaps check around the fuel pump and see if it is leaking a trajectory of fuel towards the #2.
Fred,I have seen this several times. Sometimes a carb will perk over sitting still or overnight and fill up the cly. that has the intake valve open and blow gas out between the cly. and the head even if the head torque is OK. I don't know how it does it but it will. Never underestimate the power of hydraulics. BUT I would still check the torque on the heads. Hard to hear a loose head with those loud ass headers I know you have. You have no head gaskets to deal deal with. I would bet on you having a loose head. 10mm head stud = 25 foot pds, 8mm head studs = 18 foot pd (no more no less) RE-JUST all valves after torque. Let me know what you find. You didn't say that the engine ran OK after it cleaned itself out . Need to know that.
