Gas Pedal problem

« on: June 22, 2005, 02:25:52 PM »
Hi to all. This is my first time to post here.... so here goes.

I have a '69 Beetle convertible and I've been experiencing a problem with the gas pedal either sticking or not being able to press down. I know that the pedal is sliping off of the lever that controls the gas, to the left completely at times which makes it impossible to accelerate. And, sometimes, a thin piece of metal on the back, which is "U" shaped, slips underneath the lever cyclindar and causes the pedal to stick. I have looked at the pedal and wondered if I might be missing a part on the back? Any ideas?

Thanks in advance for any help.

p.s. If this description is too confusing, I'll try to post a picture later when I get home.

if you look on the lever that the cable is attached to there should be a roller that looks and is shaped similar to a small spool of thread. if that is missing that should be your problem. i am sure one of the guys around here has a spare or you could use a spool which i have done in the past. hope this helps.

Hello Hippie Van Man.

No the roller is there. The pedal keeps slipping off that roller.

Thanks for your reply.
