Gas Pedal Pin Q's

When I got the '72 ASBug the gas pedal kept jumping to the side of the spool on the throttle actuator. I discovered the pivot pin on the pedal was 1/2 out of the holder allowing the pedal to lay over towards the shift hump. I coaxed it back in and cannot see how it will stay in. It is placed with the tappered end facing the hump and the other end is flat with no place to put a c-clip or a hole for a kotter pin....
Whassup with that :?:
I don't cherish the thought of that pedal jumping off of the spool and limiting my speed to a massive 1 mph.
Any thoughts? I have already got a bolt that is screaming to be put in, but just wondered what others have done....

If you look at the pin real close, you will see a notch machined in it . At one time there was a spring that was attached to the back of the pedal, wraped around the pin and ending up on the floor pan. Your Buddy should be able to show you.
