fuel pump

« on: May 03, 2010, 08:50:25 AM »
"WE" put in a new fuel pump this weekend and when you turn the key you can hear it...You can't hear it going down the road because the engine sound drwons it out. It does not bother me but I am wondering if this is "normal" I never heard the old fuel pump

If it is an elect.pump you can hear it "ticking". I thought you put a new pump on already. Electric pumps are just fine but I wonder why you needed another pump so soon. Did you ever replace your Transmission ?

Rick at R&M said the pump I had was for domestic cars it would not hurt anything but throws out a little extra gas. He suggested getting one for imports so we did.

We have not changed out the tranny yet but I REALLY want to soon.

Why a electric pump ?     If I have spelled it right, the electric  pump you need is the "Facet" low pressure pump. They are very good for VW's if thats what you need to do to make it run. To much pressure might flood the engine out if the fuel hoses don't off first Not a good thing.

Electric is what we had on it...I don't know what kind he bought but you know there has always been a gas smell and now there is not. If the buzzing is ok I won't ask him to change it out...He's already mad. What should have taken 15 min took him 2 hours. The gas line was frayed so that had to be replaced and gas poured all over him. He had to take the back wheel off to get the fuel line. She fell off the jack twice. Plus I just prdered two new running boards and I want hm to put them on so I won't push the fuel pump. 2 screws and 2 wires took 2 hours he said all he could think about is matches :o. I TOLD him last year to leave her alone but hethought this would be easy ;D

I don't understand your last line...not a good thing?
