fuel line connection?

« on: July 28, 2012, 10:44:02 AM »
Hello- I was changing out the fuel line from my fuel to the carb, as i was pulling the fuel line from the carb the brass connection came out of the carb.  I tapped it back in with a hammer (gently)  is this it?  is there nothing else that holds this brass connection into the carb?  seems like an accident waiting to happen.  It felt like it was tight as i tapped it in- is there anything else to do?

thanks
Kevin

Yep, clean it good, knurl it, put a dab of green loctite on it, tap it in and give it a day to cure.  It'll be good as new.  But wrap a safety wire around it anyway.  If you don't, someday you may look in your rear view mirror and see flames.  That's not a good feeling . . . trust me . . . been there, done that.   8)

Well I did tap it easily into it the carb seems very tight. But to be on the safe side my old air force aircraft mechanic training kicked in and I did indeed twist a piece of steel safety wire from a screw on top of carb over to the fuel line clamp. It is very tight too and no way to back out. This is a temp fix. I will get the brass tube threaded in permanently pretty quickly.  Thanks for the tips friends.
