Front Or Rear Apron Removal. Thanks everyone...

« on: April 04, 2005, 08:18:08 PM »
Hey there everyone,

I was wanderin if anyone out there has had any run ins with a rear apron or front apron removal? I had a rear apron that someone cut off and fiber glassed them in.. so in the removal of my engine i ripped it off. so then i got to looking and instead of welding the old one back on i decided to take off the rest of it because there really wasn't that much to take off. So i used a screw driver and a hammer.and after cussing and hurting, the right side has about 2 inchs of metal left to come off and the left side has only the spot welds that need ground down. now here is my question... can i put another after market apron on it and make it removable?? I was thinkin little bolts and locking nuts. please tell me what you think?? I know i took off all that was supposed to come off.. Thanks again...

If you buy a new rear apron, buy it from a local store or get it at a show . . . you need to put your hands on it and give it a good once-over before you shell out the $$$.  There is some real crap out there in the mail order world.  I bought one a few years back and when it came in I decided it would be less work to fix the bent up, rusty apron that was on the car than try to make the new one usable.

If it's $50 you might be OK . . . I got mine for $19.   I could have made a better one with a piece of sheet metal, tin snips, plyers and a hammer!

LOL,

David has pointed out to me that I may have ruined my firewall side peices. They were perforated and i ripped them off. I didn't think nothing about bending them out.. or in.. I really wasn't in a hurry I just didn't think. I tryed to make them fit but they wouldn't. So I ripped the tabs off.. Now I just hope I can make them work..

And I hear ya on the tin snipes. There are websites out there that will eat you alive but there stuff is crap...
