Front end noise

« on: December 27, 2009, 09:46:54 PM »
I have noticed that Sweet Pea has been making an odd noise when I go over a rough road.  Sounds like dropping a length of chain.  Or rolling a metal trash can with a chain inside it.  It is coming from the front end, passenger side I think.  I am going to take a closer look this week, but maybe someone here can give me a heads up about what to look out for.  Thanks!

I think I would run over to Ricks and put the van on the lift to take a "look see".  May be just a loose shock or something else simple.

There's a shock bushing missing from Homer the Super Bus . . . If I hit a pothole it sounds like the whole front end is coming apart.  If the only thing you've noticed is the noise, I would check for something loose, broken or missing on a shock first.  If that isn't the problem, I wouldn't drive it unitl I found out what it was.   8)

Shock bushings, sway bar bushings,.... but like Zen said, wouldn't drive it far without knowing.  Center pivot pin bushing?  Dunno.

I've been away for the holidays, so I haven't had a chance to take a look yet  I think I would like to swing by ricks.  I haven't met him yet or been by, so if someone wanted to give me his # that would be great.

Just thought I'd update this thread...  Rick discovered that one of the bolts holding the big plastic pan under the front end was loose and unable to be tightened.  New bolt, no more problem!  Thanks again R&M!
