Framehead rust 67 Bug

« on: August 09, 2011, 11:54:09 AM »
Noticed some rust through on the left front of my framehead... how painful is this going to be to repair ? Any suggestions on who locally might be able to repair or replace it for me. The car is a crusty 67 bug that I just got and I dont have the tooling or the space to try this repair myself.

You may have to replace the whole frame head. This is not a fun job. How is the axle beam. Look close around "up rights" between the tubes. They love to rust out at that point. I don't know who's doing that kind of work around here anymore. Someone may know on this forum. Good luck

I will have to take a closer look I think the uprights are ok. Most of thr rust was on the lower left front. Thanks I will follow up later today with a few photos if I get time.

X 2.

You can get whole replacement frame heads, or just a bottom plate, last time I remember.

Couldnt get any real good pics but it does look like the left lower area where it turns up it in pretty bad shape. Found several Frameheads sold and prices are all  close but none of that does me any good unless I can find some one to install it ... thanks foe everyones input and please let me know if anyone knows a place I can get it put in.

It might be easier to just replace the whole pan.  Of course then you get into VIN issues unless you cut the vin area out of the original and weld it into the replacement.

Found a coworker who  has pretty good metal skills  he says he can repair it so I will give an update in a week or two. Wish me luck. Thanks again for all the suggestions.
