of gas...It takes about 5 miles but the gas smell is whew! I am going to take a educated guess and say it's the carb loading up and spewing gas all over the motor :D The garage smells like gas and Rick is threatening to evict her to the outdoors. Any other theories?

If FeeBee is leaking gas in the engine comp. you had better fix that NOW .  VWs love to catch on fire when thats the case.   If you think the carb is leaking down, loading up , check the oil for gas filling the crankcase .  If its overfull ,change your oil NOW before it burns the bearings up. You can check the tank hoses . Some Supers have had fuel leaks at the filler hoses.

OMG your freaking me out...I don't even know where the crank case is but I will check the oil though. To my knowledge all the hoses have been replaced I am expecting the carb today [-o< Maybe I can have everything checked out when I have the carb put on. You know when I am sitting still I have to continue reving the motor to keep her running I just figured gas was spewing out of the carb. I don't want to catch on fire  I feel like when I light up in her I'm going to explode

I went out and looked at the oil stick and it does not look like oil it looks like transmission fluid  Oil is supposed to be dark...right? It smells like gas too of course it could be my imagination now I'm freaked and afraid to drive her...The "oil" is kinda runny too. Should I have her towed home?

I would not drive it until you change the oil and then find out why .  Do you have your 30-31 yet ?

Super beetles are supposed to smell like gasoline right?  Its gotta be the filler neck or......the dang fuel cap.  if they re not put on the correct way they can let gas spew out.

If the oil smells like gas, and is thin, your fuel pump may have taken a poop and is leaking back into the crankcase.  either that, or something is running gas down the intake into the cylinders, into the crankcase, blah blah, etc... either way, def don't drive until you figure out what's up.

We put the brand new out of the box 30/31 on feeb and she runs worse than ever. We changed the distributor to the 009 mechanical advance and that made things worse we have ordered the genuine mexico vacuum advance distributor. God bless a Milk Cow

Who is "WE"  Did "WE" reset the timing after the Dist. change ? If you didn't its going to be off.   Did you think that maybe the spark plugs might be fouled a bit from burning to much gas ?  When you say worse , Whats it doing ?

Your making my head spin  ...Rick put it on and I watched. Now she won't idle at all. I will ask him about the timing but I'm thinging no because he put it on and I started it up. So the timing needs reset? He did look at the distributor cap and say hmmm this is a little burnt I didn't ask questions. We should have called I know. We are trying to be self sufficient
